Seems like it was ages ago, but we had a good weekend down in PA. I was just letting the suspense build...
11 of us drove up friday night, stayed at the red roof inn. Andrew, Colin and I had the most intense rock paper scissors-esque competition ever for the beds at the hotel...that may have been the most intense competition of the whole weekend...I lost...
Everybody woke up early to get to the 9pm race start for Cs. We had five guys riding xc C's, Colin, Sean, Hayden, Taylor, and John. Colin finished up in the points, while Hayden, Taylor, and John all finished just out of the points and one after the other! Sean came through lookin strong when I saw him, up at the front, and something happened I think...can't remember what...
Aaron finished up in the points in A's, and in the top ten! Brian's tires were attacked by lehigh rocks and he had it rough with a simultaneous double flat. Leo's derailleur was attacked by lehigh rocks too! it's totally gone! Jimmy avoided the rocks and posted a great top ten finish in B's.
During the xc race Andrew and I practiced the dh course. Fun courses all around, lots of pedaling, some techy sections. I had a slow start and when I realized it immediately crashed (with grace) in my race so I was out of the running, but Andrew posted a great time that put him in second in B's (upgrade!).
Fired up the grill, ate some dogs and burgers, and everybody but Colin, Andrew, and I peaced out for ithaca. We split for the 'ol red roof, and had a bona-fide tailgating party in their parking lot (as one guest told his son).
Sunday DH was an easier course, fast, emphasizing cornering technique and pedal power more than anything else. During practice Colin stuck out a foot in a corner and ended up with a badly sprained ankle that he's still nursing. Andrew and I both had decent race runs with him finishing 1 second faster (argh!) and placing 2nd again in B's. I was 11th in A's.
Finished up, packed up, hauled back to Ithaca--pumped!
Highland report coming. the weekend was an unorthodox combination of skidmore dance party, sobering heli-evacs, progression, and SICK trails.
